My Journey

I bring over thirty years of professional social work and healthcare experiences along with over fifteen years of graduate and undergraduate teaching (classroom and field education).  As a Registered Nurse (RN) I practiced in a myriad of healthcare settings (psychiatric nursing, community health, surgery/OR, chemical dependency/substance abuse and administration).  As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW in Illinois, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Indiana) I worked with individuals (age 5 through end of life), couples, families and groups.

I am most comfortable working with college students, mid-life through geriatric age, academic colleagues and other professionals, implementing professional development trainings, workshops, community and agency consultations along with teaching cross-cultural (diversity, inclusiveness, equity & anti-racism) practice.  I work with individuals struggling with PTSD, anxiety/depression, grief & loss, mood disorders, chronic emotional illness, addiction/chemical substances, chronic pain, eating disorders, sexual abuse/trauma, and sleep disturbances. I also enjoy working with biracial / multicultural folx and parents with biracial kids.

My practice of therapy incorporates a thorough assessment (bio-psycho-social-cultural-spiritual), relationship driven approach with one or several of the following therapeutic interventions: cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, solutions focused/brief therapy, relationship/ interpersonal and/or self psychology.

I am also a forensic social worker with experience working with adult male sex offenders and a capital defense mitigations specialist.  I love to travel (China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Canada & Bermuda), and lived in the south for 14 years before returning to the Midwest. I am the parent to a female Boston Terrier (Lucca) who is spoiled rotten.

After retiring (in 2017) and the sudden death of my husband, Eric, I came out of retirement to accept a Senior Staff Therapist position at Purdue University Counseling and Psychological Services in West Lafayette, Indiana before joining Well Mind Therapy Services.  My life, teaching and research motto is, “I am because we are; we are because I am.” – West African Proverb
